Christina Aguilera congratulates Britney on birth

Christina Aguilera has congratulated long-time rival Britney Spears on the birth of her son.

Despite recently slating the new mum for "letting herself go", the 'Dirrty' singer says she is "thrilled" for Britney, who gave birth to son Sean Preston last week.

Christina - who has known Britney since they starred on 'The Mickey Mouse Club' as children - told MTV: "My assistant came in the room when it happened and she's like, 'Britney had a boy!' and I was like, 'Oh my gosh!' .

"I don't know where I was for a while when she was pregnant but it really kicked in at that point. It's like, wow, she had a baby! That's crazy! I'm overjoyed and thrilled for her. It's such an exciting time in her life and I just wish her the best".

Christina, who is engaged to Jordan Bratman, also revealed she has sent Britney and the baby a gift and card.
